Mr. Jaime Escalante, renowned Latino math teacher, portrayed in the 1988 movie Stand and Deliver to address youth, parents and the DFW Metroplex community as part of the AHETEMS Distinguished Lecture Series. Mr. Escalante will share his love for math and education with ganas on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 6:00 PM, at the University of Texas at Arlington. The public is invited to attend. Congratulations to Sierra Middle School, in Las Cruces, NM, for winning the Middle School Civility Award for outstanding sportmanship at the 2009 National Science Bowl in Washington DC. Sierra Middle School advanced to the national competition as the champion from the SHPE Region 5 - El Paso Middle School Science Bowl.
Team members included Dustin Hadfield, Fionna McCrossin, Jeongmin Lee, Alex Antholzner, Jesse Gioannini and coach David Wibe. More Info.
The Ay Mijo/a Book Series is a great resource for libraries, schools, churches, YMCAs, boys and girls clubs and personal libraries. The books are a GREAT way to motivate young students to be the next generation engineer.
The Ay Mijo/a Book Series starts off with 24-short inspirational stories of Hispanic female and male engineers as they grew up with their families, spending special holidays at home as they grew to become one of America's most successful engineers serving as a role-model for many other children.
