Undergraduate

AHETEMS provides several scholarship, internship, research and educational support opportunities throughout the year for Latino/a undergraduate students.

The intent of these programs is to provide students academic and technological capital. Through various functions and events, students are engaged in environments where they will develop and hone their technical knowledge and competency to become the next generation of globally-competitive engineers.

AHETEMS provides the following program initiatives and supports several partnerships for Latino/a undergraduate students.

Internships — AHETEMS provides Hispanic undergraduates with several competitive 10-week summer research internships at agencies such as the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, the Department of Energy, and the National Highway and Transporation Safety Administration. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

GRE/GRAD Lab - In partnership with The National GEM Consortium, this two-day program at the SHPE national conference provides students the opportunitiy to take the GRE practice exam, gain insight into critical test taking strategy skills, and learn how to successfully navigate the graduate school application process.

IBM Mentorship Program — Recognizes the high academic standards set forth by undergraduate students who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Students are paired with an IBM professional and participate in exclusive professional and academics development events and forums.

Competitions — AHETEMS oversees the Academic Olympiad and the Design Competition at the SHPE national conference. The Academic Olympiad is a "Jeopardy"-style competition between one team from each of the seven regions in SHPE. The Design Competition challenges teams to innovate, develop, write and present a prototype for public utilization.
