Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Intern-Scholarship

The Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Intern-Scholarship (FCX) is available for full-tiime undergraduates pursuing engineering or mining-related degrees at an accredited college or university in the United States or Puerto Rico. The program provide a $5,000 scholarship and a paid summer internship.

FCX is an international mining industry leader based in North America with large, long-lived, geographically diverse assets and significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum.

Internships will be assigned through an interview process and will be carried out at an agreed location (at a Freeport-McMoRan operation or corporate office).

Internship interviews will be conducted in January of the academic school year in which the scholarship is awarded (for example Fall 08 recipients will be interviewed in January of 2009 for the summer of 2009 internship). Scholarship interviews/selections are conducted in March of each school year.

Internships will be paid, temporary positions. Students will be responsible for housing and other living expenses during the course of the internship. (Interns may be eligible for company subsidized housing where available. In instances where company housing is not available, a small stipend may be provided for some housing expenses). Further details will be provided during the interview process.- This varies by location.

Scholarship renewal will be contingent upon academic progress and performance during summer internship and at the discretion of the University department staff and the Freeport-McMoRan review committee.

Scholarships are available to students of U.S. citizenship and international students with citizenship in Canada, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Australia.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale and be in good university standing.
  • Must be enrolled in Engineering and/or Mining related degrees - Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Geology / Geological Engineering degree program.
  • Preference given to juniors and seniors
  • Preference is given to students who agree to a 9-12 week summer internship, during the summer.
