AHETEMS Pre-College Symposia

The AHETEMS Pre-College Symposia is the largest, national Hispanic pre-college science and engineering conference. It provides high school and middle school students the opportunity to gain valuable information on the college process. Students have the opportunity to attend workshops on college choice, financial aid and scholarships and careers in science and engineering. They have the opportunity to visit with representatives from colleges and universities, scholarship agencies and test prep organizations. In addition, students get the opportunity to travel and network outside their community, two key elements to becoming a successful Latino/a college student and engineer.

High School Track: 400 non-local high school students will attend the 2.5-day program; an additional 400 local high school students from Washington DC and surrounding areas will be invited to attend the one day program on Friday, October 30, 2009.

Middle School Track: 200 local middle school students from Washington DC will be hosted during the day-long program on Friday, October 30, 2009.

SPECIAL GUESTS

Invited guests include Jose Hermandez, NASA Astronaut.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Through the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, AHETEMS provides over $14,000 in direct scholarships, travel, lodging and registration to four high school students. Additional travel and registration waivers and subsidies are available.
