AHETEMS - Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science

Deans' Summit

The SHPE/AHETEMS Deans' Summit brings together leaders from Academia to develop an Action Plan for how SHPE and AHETEMS can best partner with Hispanic Serving Institutions and majority institutions to increase Hispanic student retention, persistence and graduation rates both in undergraduate and graduate STEM fields.

The Summit is different from other similar topics, because it includes a strategy session where we are asking the participants to develop a tangible roadmap that defines the relationship between SHPE, AHETEMS and targeted higher education institutions.

The goal is to conclude the Summit with measurable steps and policies that both SHPE, AHETEMS and academe will immediately launch in an effort to achieve our goal of increasing the success rates of Hispanics in STEM fields.

In 2008, representatives from the White House, National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME), the American Institutes for Research, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have been invited.
